In 2024, the Normandy Horse Meet Up and the Centre de Valorisation wanted to shift their perspective. This event, the only one in France exclusively dedicated to equine professionals, showcased another side of horses. While horseback riding is the primary discipline for anyone looking to engage with horses, it’s also possible to form a different kind of relationship with them through groundwork or simply through work in general. The first step is, however, to feel comfortable working with your animal on the ground and to be able to guide it with long reins.

A Long Reins Workshop: Approaching Work with Your Horse

To lead this workshop, Les Attelages de la Nicollerie and Fabrice Vautier advised horse owners on the best methods for handling long reins. This is a fundamental approach to groundwork, but one must understand how to position oneself relative to the horse and guide it in the most effective way possible. Duc de l’Aumône, the Normand cob, took part willingly, as did Kody du Petit Odon for the Cotentin donkeys.

Innovative Equipment, from Harness to Cart

For this event, the Centre de Valorisation was also supported by Sylvie Buschoff from the Percheron Saddlery, who showcased her expertise to visitors. Her Espedis collar received great success and changed the visitors’ perspective on animal traction.

The Electrac was also present, demonstrating the latest innovations in assisted horse-drawn vehicles.

Kody, the Mascot of the Event

Kody du Petit Odon, always a loyal presence at the event, is becoming quite accustomed to it, with his dedicated fans. It’s no surprise, as he loves being photographed, massaged, and pampered. For him, the Normandy Horse Meet Up is far from a chore, even though he too contributes to ensuring that the experience is perfect.
